Here's how to create an effective email marketing campaign

With the arrival of social media, many businesses and entrepreneurs have started doubting the usefulness of email marketing. This is because of the common misperception that people do not read emails anymore.

Research, however, shows that despite the popularity and widespread use of social media, the return on investment (ROI) that businesses generate through emails still demonstrates a positive trajectory.

So, if you are an entrepreneur who solely relied on social media marketing techniques in the past and now wishes to give emails a try, here are six proven strategies that can steer your email marketing campaign toward success.

1. Create a list of subscribers

Irrespective of how many email addresses you have saved in your address book, creating a list of subscribers -- comprising your target audience -- will streamline the process and keep your work organized.

If you need more subscribers, try including blogs, articles, and videos to your website and urge visitors to subscribe to your company's newsletter. Also, don't forget to respect people's choices and give them the option to unsubscribe from your list if they wish to.

2. Engage with your target audience

When you send out an email to your subscribers, make sure that you are approachable and readers can get back to you. Encourage them to email you if they have any questions or concerns. If you receive an email, try to respond as soon as possible.

3. Personalize the email

People receive dozens of subscription emails every day. If the content of your email is boring, people will probably delete it without reading.

To engage your target audience, try to give a personal touch to your email. For instance, address the reader by using their names instead of sending a generic email saying, "Dear subscriber".

4. Do not send generic, mass emails

Even though the ideas of sending mass emails will save you time and effort, seasoned digital marketers suggest dividing your subscribers into different categories.

If you want to send an email to companies, you have to use a different tone and approach. If you are emailing young adults, the content of the email has to be tweaked accordingly.

5. Clutter-free content

It's understandable that you want to send out as much information about your business as possible, but bombarding the readers with too much information could be counter-effective. Always avoid cluttering your email with useless content. Include short paragraphs containing relevant keywords, add pointers, and minimize the use of pictures.

6. Cut to the chase

As aforementioned, your email should not be dull and uninteresting, but do not beat about the bush either. Keep the content of your email as relevant as possible and get to the point. If you include information which is not pertinent to the target audience, they will probably delete your email without reading further.
